Junior Kindy

Junior Kindy

The junior Kindy room is offered to 2 to 3 year olds and is ran at a ratio of 1 educator to 5 children. It is at this age that educators really notice and help to magnify the children’s uniqueness and different personalities that each and every child possesses. We believe this is a great age for educators to work passionately with the children on their social development by creating a caring, nurturing and safe environment and educators role model manners, respect, care and empathy by giving them a warm and loving education, by doing this children learn to respect each other and the environment as it becomes part of their nature through play.

In this room the children begin their journey of toilet training. In their transition to toilet training and independence Children are encouraged to sit on the toilet during changes and then progress into undies when the individual is comfortable. Children are also encouraged to build on their independence in preparation for the senior Kindy room by attempting to put on shoes and socks, washing hands, applying sunscreen, packing away after meals and activities.

This age group loves to explore especially through sensory play. The children are offered a variety of activities on a daily basis to build on their independence, sensory development and social skills. They are given the opportunity to learn about colours, shapes, counting and sorting during their day of play.

We follow the Reggio Emilia approach. It is a pedagogy described as student-centered and constructivist that utilizes self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments. The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery through a self-guided curriculum.

Junior Kindy is a happy and energetic room with a loving and warm caring atmosphere where children are always busy and love to get messy. At little diggers parents are welcomed and encouraged to stay and play as both the children and educator enjoy learning from others.
